Houston Street is a harmonious mix of old and new.
Houston Street is one of San Antonio’s oldest and most popular streets. It was originally called “Rivas Street” east of the river and “El Paseo del Rio” west of it was renamed Houston street in 1871. It’s situated in the middle of the city’s central business district and notable for its eclectic and fashionable reputation.
In Houston street, you will find the beautiful Majestic Theatre, the new Frost Tower, and connections to the River Walk.
According mysanantonio.com there is a call t focus more on the preservation, revitalization, and development of Houston Street to become a more charming and inviting street so it can become more of a coherent destination for residents and visitors. According to My San Antonio page, the International Downtown Association, which recently studied Houston Street found Houston Street to have good bones but found it disconnected and often lacking in sparkle. I am looking forward to the future of this important cultural, business and historical street.
